Beginner’s pole dancing

Name:
Joanna Wright
Age:
24
Course:
Beginner's pole dancing
Where?
Star and Garter, Bromley
Period:
One evening a week for six weeks
Entry onto the course:
Any woman over 18 can take the course, there are no formal requirements.
Reasons for choosing the course:
I wanted to get fit doing something fun outside of the gym and I had heard a lot of celebrities
exercise this way. I've also recently moved from Cornwall and this has been a good way of making new female friends.
Areas the course covers:
In the first lesson everyone introduces themselves to make students feel more comfortable. Each week the teacher demonstrates new moves and we take turns at trying them.
We start simply by holding the pole and lifting off the floor and over the weeks we build up to more difficult upside-down slides. In the final week we put the moves into a routine and perform them to music.
The other students:
Everyone is really nice. There are women of all shapes and sizes and one woman is quite a bit older. One girl was really shy when we started but now she is the first to try every move.
Atmosphere:
Everyone lets go of their inhibitions so it is relaxed and a good laugh. We support each other and give encouragement when people attempt moves.
The future:
I am going to do the
intermediate course for six weeks, and also do a striptease course.
You don't take your clothes off though, it's all about building
confidence and the art of seduction.
