PENSIONERS are continuing their fight against "unfair" parking charges at a hospital.

Lewisham Hospital is set to review its policy of charging blue badge holders to park in the hospital car park.

But Deptford Action Group for the Elderly is still angry hospital bosses will not commit to allowing elderly motorists to park for free.

The hospital currently has 60 parking spaces, with seven spaces reserved for blue badge holders.

All motorists have to pay to park but blue badge holders are entitled to claim the money back from the hospital.

The group says the refund policy is not publicised widely enough and believes pensioners should not have to pay in the first place.

Chairman Harry Haward said: "The charges are unfair. People with blue badges should be given priority for parking spaces. We deserve a bit more respect."

A hospital spokesman says it has decided to suspend its current refund policy due to the "confusion" it has created.

The spokesman added hospital bosses are in discussion with the council about developing a new multi-storey car park on the site.
