ELEVEN people were injured when a bus collided with a block of flats.
The route 188 bus, which runs between North Greenwich station and Russell Square, was travelling down a one-way street when it swerved and mounted the pavement.
It then crashed into the flats which are part of the Osprey estate.
Firefighters from Deptford were called to the scene.
Ambulance crews treated the casualties for minor injuries including neck, back and facial injuries.
Two people were taken to Lewisham Hospital, two people were taken to Kings College Hospital and seven people were taken to St Thomas' Hospital.
Sarah Burr has lived in the flats in Tawny Way off Lower Road, Rotherhithe, for 13 years.
She said: "We felt a shudder and we did not know what it was.
"Everyone rushed out to see what had happened.
The top deck at the front of the bus was crushed in the crash.
A Deptford fire service spokesman said: "If anyone had been sitting there they would have been seriously injured."

So why have you used a picture of a fire engine to illustrate this story? Unless of course the bus was going to Erif.

Maybe the driver lost control after seeing an invasion of giant rats scurrying along the road? (See other current news articles in the area).
Sorry, poor taste, my sympathies to the injured. Good job nobody was seriously hurt.

How could the driver not see a block of flats?
What could have been the distraction?

I witnessed this. It was absolutely horrific, because the bus was so smashed up that had anyone been sitting on the top deck at the front, or had there been any pedestrians about, there is no way they would have come off with only minor injuries. So glad to see no-one was hurt majorly!
I would be very interested to know how it happened. When I walked to work this morning, I saw the tyre marks on the road, and the bus had swerved all the way from the middle lane (not the bus lane that he should have been in) and across a very wide pavement into the building. Unless the driver just completely lost control of the bus, what the hell made him do this?!

Nathan - yeah I read the BBC report, but they're wrong. There was definitely no involvement with the bus stop - the accident was several metres up the road before the stop. Whilst I don't know how many people were taken to hospital, there was certainly more than one person treated at the scene.

Does it not matter to some of you that people were injured. As for Erastus, why don't you keep your comments to yourself. I think it's about time we make comments about you.

Funny Comments - Judge not so you shall not be judged, no mention about the joy riders who stole a car, ran a red light coliding with a bus causing it to lose control and run into a building. The guy is a professional and it could have been worse. We all do or knows someone who takes buses daily so we must be careful what we say.

Sorry in advance : pedant moment !
How can a fixed object "collide" with anything ?
Isn't a "collision" a coming together of two or more moving objects ?
