Gang in court accused of murder
 |
| Warren Gray |
A GROUP of men allegedly killed a defenceless 24-year-old because they thought he had raped their friend, a court heard.
Warren Gray was shot in the chest with a double-barreled shotgun inside a friend's flat at Milford Towers, Rushey Green, Catford, on May 3 last year.
The Old Bailey heard today (March 13) he had also been beaten as he tried to run from his attackers, leaving some of the block's stairwells smeared with blood.
Prosecutor Aftab Jafferjee said: "It was an expedition to search, find and kill."
A 24-year-old woman who was a friend of the gang had made an allegation of rape against Mr Gray in July 2006.
The prosecution claim when one of the accused men, 23-year-old Michael Peters, learned Mr Gray's name he assembled a gang of friends and decided to hunt him down.
Peters, of Bellingham Road, Catford, and Marvin Hussein, aged 24, of Stanstead Road, Catford, both deny murder and possessing a firearm.
Dean Clement, aged 23, and Sebastian Baptiste-Gomez, aged 23, both of no fixed address, deny the same charges.
The 24-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denies perverting the course of justice.
It is claimed she destroyed a SIM card which would have been useful to police investigating the killing of Mr Gray.
