IT'S been a long wait but the new look Charlton Lido has finally opened, just in time for the summer holidays and Olympics.

Work on the £3m redevelopment have been subject to financial difficulties in recent years, but now the first part is complete - a 50m Olympic-sized heated outdoor pool.

Phase two of the Hornfair Park pool will see a new health and fitness facility, community room, cafe and changing rooms.

That will see the facility closed again in the autumn, reopening next Easter.

The lido is open weekdays from 9.30am to 8pm or weekends from 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Swimmers are advised to buy their tickets in advance at better.org.uk/leisure/charlton-lido/

OMG I can remember going swimming here in the school holidays - and also at the one in Martens Avenue. Happy days!!
