A CHARITY hopes to have stacks of cash following the sweet success of the first annual Bexleyheath Pancake Race.

Eighteen firms took part in the relay race in Bexleyheath Broadway on Tuesday (February 21), which was sponsored by W Uden and Sons Ltd and run in partnership with the Marriott Hotel and Bexleyheath BID.

On the day, the batter side was AMP Electrical, which was rewarded with a frying pan. On the flipside, the team from Bexleyheath’s TK Maxx took the wooden spoon for coming in last.

Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice hopes to have raised at least £2,000 through sponsorship, team registration and pancake sales.

Community fundraiser Kimberley Wheeler said: “Everyone was in great spirit. I’m absolutely delighted with crowd turnout, and of course for the support of the local business community. The community really pulled together today, including our dedicated team of hospice volunteers who supported the event with bucket collections.”
