A NEW branch of 99p Stores has replaced the former Woolworths shop in Bromley High Street.

The store has created around 30 new jobs.

This is the 124th 99p Stores in the UK and the 52nd ex-Woolies store to be re-opened by 99p Stores.

The new Bromley store has around 4,000 different 99p items extending from cosmetics to catering, food to fashion.

99p Stores is opening up one or two new outlets a week as the recession makes sub-£1 stores an essential part of the shopping experience in bargain-hungry Britain.

Hussein Lalani, co-founder of the brand as well as commercial director, said: “In a way we are giving the public what Woolworths failed to do for so many years, and that is to give great value products.

"Woolworths started out as a six pence shop with everything at one price - we are the 21st century version of this.

"We feel proud to take over the mantle and consider ourselves custodians of the Woolworths brand.

"When Woolworths was set up it connected with the British public and we believe we are now doing this."
