Ebbsfleet United manager Steve Brown praised his side’s commitment following Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Tonbridge Angels.

The game was the Fleet’s second in two days after Thursday’s 2-0 victory at Gosport Borough.

And another three points were secured against Tonbridge thanks to Michael Thalassitis’ header late in the first half.

Post-match Brown was full of admiration for his jaded players, even if their performance was not the best.

“I knew that fitness-wise it was going to be a struggle for us and it did have an impact on the game,” the Stonebridge Road chief told BBC Radio Kent.

“The pleasing thing for me is that we showed resilience again today.

“I don’t really mind what anyone says about the performance but when you analyse the chances and how many they had and we had, I feel like although the performance wasn’t as scintillating as Thursday night, the result was even more important than Thursday night.

“As much as I have put this squad together and it’s a very young squad, I feel that sometimes you need to draw on the experience of the players who have been there and done it.

“I feel like in the past two games, the experience of being in this situation across their careers counted for a lot.”

For the first time in almost a month, Ebbsfleet now have a midweek schedule free of games and Brown revealed he is looking forward to the break.

He said: “What’s nice about now is that there’s two training sessions between this game and the one next Saturday, so we can control the work the players do.

“There are some really tired players out there today.

“Dean Rance is one of the fittest players you’ll find and he’s on his last legs.

“I’ve asked Michael Corcoran to play two 90 minutes in three days after not doing 90 in three or four months.

“It’s a brilliant effort from Corcs today.

“You literally do take each game as it comes at the moment, but the results were good again today.”

Ebbsfleet travel to Staines Town on Saturday (3pm).
