Squashed rats and a pigeon infestation have been the result of fly-tipping in a residential area in Ladywell.

Toilets, sofas and mattresses have been dumped at a huge site on Mercy Road and another on Ladywell Road.

The two dumps are in close proximity to cafes, family homes and several schools.

Cafe Oscars owner Petra Reekers said the fly-tipping began five years ago.

“It’s such a shame that people are dumping their rubbish like that, especially since work to rejuvenate the area took place not too long ago. It’s so close to the high street. It makes me feel very uncomfortable,” she said.

The news follows the multi-award winning £2 million regeneration of the area which was funded by the London Development Agency in 2011.
