Kent firefighters have tackled a blaze in Dartford the size of seven football pitches.

Fire crews were called to reports of five hectares of corn alight in a field off Hawley Road near to the Questor Industrial Estate at 2.30pm.

Six fire engines were sent to the scene.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters dealt with a fire in a field of standing corn and are using hose reels, fliexi packs and beaters to put out the blaze."

The blaze was under control by 3.30pm.

Reported to the Fire Brigade by the ever diligent Fire Marshall at F M Conway. Believed to be started by the Crow Scarer/s recently set up. Certainly worked although not perhaps in the way it was supposed to.
