Another high-rise development has been approved in Woolwich with buildings up to 18 storeys.

Callis Yard, which faces on to the high street and stands beside Riverside House, is a former service yard and stables.

But the new development will see it converted into 152 homes - 32 per cent of which will be affordable - along with a children's play centre and car park.

The plans were revised slightly from a previous scheme which included a 20-storey block. That building has now been reduced down to 18 and council planning officials say this is in keeping with the surrounding area.

A locally-listed stable building dating back to the 1890s will also be kept and a plaque will be put up recognising the site's history.

The development was unanimously approved by a Greenwich Council planning board on July 21.
