Bexley's former deputy mayor has apologised for letting a group of strippers perform at her Crayford pub when the licence did not allow it.

Councillor Geraldine Lucia-Hennis told News Shopper it was an "oversight" and she was "open and above board" about when The Charlotte pub was investigated by council officers and police.

News Shopper revealed in March how the Station Road pub was being investigated after the Adonis Caberet Show performed at the pub.

Bexley Council has completed its investigation and said the pub was given a "simple caution" which could influence future prosecutions if there are further offences.

Coun Lucia-Hennis said: "It was an accident as we apologised. We made a mistake by holding the event on a Thursday instead of a Friday, we thought we would be covered.

"When we took this pub over eight years ago it was known as the 'chemist' because of the amount of drugs you could buy and no cabs would pick up from here.

"We shut it for nine months and cleaned it up and since then we have raised more than £48,000 for charities."

A Bexley Council spokesman added: "Evidence of unauthorised activity was obtained, and a meeting took place with the premises licence holder on June 13.

"The premises licence holder was given a formal ‘simple caution’, which was agreed to be the most appropriate and proportionate enforcement action for the case.

"The existence of a formal ‘simple caution’ may influence a future decision to prosecute, and may be taken into consideration by the courts if the person is convicted of a further offence in the future."
