PICTURED: Double-decker bus and 4x4 crash in wet weather in Sidcup

News Shopper: The Ford Kuga ended up in someone's front garden (image by Martin Peaple). The Ford Kuga ended up in someone's front garden (image by Martin Peaple).

A 4x4 ploughed into a wall after crashing into a double-decker bus during wet weather in Sidcup this morning.

The silver Ford Kuga drove into the side of the 321 bus which was coming down Sidcup Hill towards Foots Cray at around 10.25am.

The vehicle then mounted the pavement and hit a garden wall, leaving red bricks strewn across the walkway.

It is thought the driver was heading down Knoll Road but was unable to stop at the junction in heavy rain.

The front right hand side of the 4x4 was caved in after hitting the wall while the windows on the bus’s front door were smashed.

News Shopper:

The front door windows of the bus were smashed (image by Martin Peaple).

Three ambulances and a London Ambulance Service response car attended and one 55-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital in Woolwich with minor head injuries.

A 41-year old woman and a 44-year-old man both suffered minor arm injuries.

A 49-year-old man sustained a minor hip injury and a 39-year-old woman “suffered nausea”, according to a police statement.

It is not clear which patients were travelling in the bus or the car.

Martin Peaple, 25, was walking up Sidcup Hill at around 11am when he saw the aftermath of the accident.

He said: “Apparently there was a lady driving and kids in the car as well.

“It was a bit of a mess.”

Police attended and temporary road restrictions were put in place. No arrests were made.

Transport for London said it was carrying out an investigation into what happened.

If the idiot driving the 4x4 couldnt stop in the so called heavy rain coming down Knoll Road then they were obviously driving way too fast and probably need to re-take their driving test after all its common sense that it takes longer to stop in wet conditions plus this is the end of the road. Luckily it wasnt a motor cyclist or pedal bike they hit as this could have quite easily been a different story.

Indeed, clearly going too fast for the conditions.

Did she even try to stop? With ABS & decent tyres wet roads are no excuse

To bounce off the bus and demolish a wall she must have been travelling too fast, surely coming up to a junction she would slow down ready to stop

Like kentlad said, it it had been a cyclist it could easily have been a fatality

Typical 4x4 surburban driver. No idea how to drive a big car and thinking that the mirrors are for assisting in supplying a bit of slap and lippy.
I live in the country now and have a 4x4 for work.I am amazed how many morons from my old part of the country come down here on holiday and have no idea what they are doing. The worst by far are the snobs (mostly) with BMW X5s or X3s - The X3 is generally driven by Hairdressers or gay men.
We can always tell when its a Londoner driving one as its all nice and clean but with a few marks on back where its been reversed into a hedge.
As a Londoner myself living in the country I am embarrassed by these idiots. However its very entertaining for the locals especially when they are struggling to park, word gets round quick and an audience will gather to laugh and mock the fools as they go backwards and forwards continually, eventual

Their inability to park explains why they need to use disabled spaces in supermarkets
