The girls, who have all earned a special badge with a rollerskating design to mark the event, designed necklaces, bracelets and masks while waiting for their turn to skate in the spotlight.

Brownie leader and division commander for the area, Sandra Mapp, said: “The Brownies thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Some said they had never been skating before and so they learnt how to do it."

The Brownie section of charity Girlguiding is for girls aged seven to 10 years and the group is celebrating its 100th birthday this year with events held across the country.

Speaking of the significance of the Big Brownie Birthday, Ms Mapp said: “We all give our time voluntarily, it is just seeing the girls able to do something, rather than sitting indoors or out on the streets, it teaches them skills of teamwork and confidence.”
