Mr Dannaher contacted the Red Cross in Alma Lane and arranged to spend five days working in the store.

He said: "I wanted any volunteer work to benefit my local area so I canvassed the different shops and when I met the manager, Linda, I was taken aback by her enthusiasm."

During his time with Red Cross Mr Dannaher canvassed Sidcup business about donating goods to be sold at a special event marking his last day at the store - the day raised around ᆪ300 for the charity.

The RBS worker added: ""We brainstormed a few ideas to do something a bit different. We discussed the Mary Portas programme about reinventing a charity shop and we thought we would contact local businesses to donate goods for this particular day.

News Shopper:

"I posted leaflets through people's doors and put up posters to let people know it was happening - a lot of people turned up.

"I had a stall outside and we raised more than the shop normally would in a day."
