This horrifying picture of an 89-year-old attack victim reveals why a Hextable teenager has been jailed for more than 10 years.

During a spate of violent assaults Aaron Davis, 18, beat one of his victims, Jean McDougall, so viciously her false teeth came out and her glasses were smashed.

Davis, formerly of College Road, Hextable, robbed and assaulted a number of vulnerable pensioners in their homes last year.

On October 15 police were called to Panters, Hextable, where Davis had entered and beaten an elderly couple.

He had knocked at the door carrying a black holdall and asked for the time from when Mrs McDougall answered.

Around 15 minutes later the elderly victim went to the bathroom and noticed the bag on the floor of the flat but remembers nothing afterwards other than waking up in an ambulance.

Davis had attacked her and her 84-year-old husband with a crowbar.

Mrs McDougall was left with a fractured nose and eye socket, a fracture to the base of her spine and other injuries consistent with being kicked repeatedly. Her false teeth came out due to the force of the attack and her glasses were broken.

She bravely asked the police to circulate images of her injuries to reveal the full horror of the attack.

Davis was identified as the suspect after he matched the description given by the victim and his DNA was found on the bag he had left at the crime scene.

Detectives investigating the case linked it to a previous offence that had occurred in Panters the previous month.

On September 10 an 81-year-old woman awoke from being unconscious and called her friend saying she had fallen over and hurt herself.

Ten days later in hospital the victim recalled that Davis had entered her home and assaulted her.

Golf clubs were stolen from this victim’s shed, which was set on fire.

Davis was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on May 6 to 10-and-a-half years in prison.

He had pleaded guilty at a previous court hearing to three counts of GBH with intent, two counts of robbery, burglary of the shed and another burglary at the football pavilion in Hextable Park.

Kent Police Detective Constable Shelley Rainer, who led the investigation, said: “It is a case that has caused immeasurable damage to the victims, their families and the community they live in.

“The victims’ courage in supporting the police has led to the successful conviction and prevented other offences in the future.

“Despite the age of the defendant the judge has imposed a significant sentence I think reflects the serious nature of the offences and also the threat that he poses to society.”
