A kebab house in "thriving" New Eltham counts Masterchef's Gregg Wallace as a regular and even has a secret dining room for VIPs and celebrities.

The dubious claims have been made on a recently-created Wikipedia page for the New Eltham Grill in Avery Hill Road.

News Shopper: Wiltshire kebab's calorie nightmare

According to the page: "The New Eltham Grill is an Ottoman inspired eaterie popular with celebrities, people from the arts and every living soul in New Eltham. It is situated in the village's thriving east end."

It goes on: "Opening in 1994 to a fever of excitement and expectancy, the Grills standards have been kept consistently high. Several ownership changes have only served to increase demand and inspire international cuisine.

"The restaurant area seats 2 guests and there is also said to be a private dining room to the rear of the kitchen, saved for VIPs and those willing to spend over £600."

Like the contents of many kebabs, the author of the webpage - now deleted - is unknown, but this is not the first time New Eltham has been praised using the online encylopedia.

Last year, the area's page was changed to include: "Notable attractions include the recently renovated Beehive Public House, New Eltham Library, Avery Hill Park, and the excellent Public Toilet at the crossroads, one of only three in Greenwich borough with 24 hour access."

The internet prankster went on: "Near the Railway station is the Library, the Co-operative Food Store, a cluster of small shops, the Post Office, and an excellent public toilet with disabled access (please note that toilet paper is sporadically replenished so bring some from home)."

And they added: "Also found on the strip is Superfry, whether you want a chip butty or to watch channel 5 on a 12 inch throwback television it is always welcoming. SE9's prime and most sought after location is taken up by Nicos Greek Taverna, a jewel in New Eltham's crown.

"Diners are repeatedly amazed that when they leave the restaurant after a night of Mousakka and Michael Buble impersonation, they're not stepping out into Athens."

Just when you thought the NS couldnt find a duller story they pull this beauty out the bag. "The page now deleted" so it doesnt even exist now, what a pointless waste of space.

Agreed. We shouldn't ever write anything that could be considered 'fun'. I threw up in my mouth a little bit just writing the word 'fun' then. We must try harder to impress, it's not like these stories ever become the most-read on our site, after all .. oh wait ...

Its under the NEWS: section, maybe get the WebMaster to create you a new section called FUN and Stories nicked off Twitter and WIKI.
Most read only due to Misleading Headline. I use the New Eltham Grill alot and it is very tasty, for just a second I did wonder if Greg Wallace really did visit it.

Next time you're in the NE Grill ask them to serve you up a chill pill, or go straight to Boots now ask for the 100mg ones, you need them.

Will try to have a word with the WebMaster and see what he can do. He's a really mean and angry man who'll probably yell at me like usual, but if I ask him really nicely and tell it was you who suggested it, you never know, he might be able to do something.

The Chilli Sauce normally chills me out. Dont get me wrong the story is also under the lists and laughs sections which is fine and dandy, not under news.

For the sake of petty argument, news is merely the reporting of recent events. The silly Wikipedia claims about a kebab house is a recent event, ergo it's news.
