Gravesend Rotary Club want to see one thousand people take part in the 28th annual 'On Your Bike' event.

Over 400 keen riders are already signed up for the event, which takes place on Sunday (April 27).

Cyclists will choose to challenge themselves over a 15, 30 or 45 mile route from Gravesend's riverside, raising funds for The EllenorLions Hospices and a further 20 charities along the way.

Rotary Club President Adrian Warburton said: “Last year we had over 850 riders. It would be great to have a thousand riders take part in this the 28th year we have organised the event.”

“On Your Bike is a real family event with its three distances to choose from. We have the dedicated cyclists who tell us it is the best organised ride in the region and the first time riders who are happy they have completed their challenge and have helped a great community cause.

“Also we have kept up to date with a web site, internet sponsorship giving and now are also getting used to the world of Facebook!”

The Deputy Mayor of Gravesham, Councillor Colin Caller will kick off the event at 8.45am at the Canal Basin end of Gravesend promenade. Riders then return throughout the day.

Registration takes place from 8am.

The event is also unique because the cyclists receive a special slate coaster and certificate plus if they get their sponsorship paid in before August 31 they are automatically entered in a free draw for a cycle donated by Tri-the-Bike Shop of Windmill Street, Gravesend.
