Bromley council says it is urgently seeking a court injunction to stop Waste4Fuel illegally dumping waste on green belt land.

A planning sub committee heard last Thursday (April 3) the Cornwall Drive recycling plant has been dumping rubbish more than a metre high on the adjoining land without planning permission.

The rubbish is clearly visible from the surrounding area, and there are concerns continued expansion could take place.

Chairman of planning sub committee Councillor Alexa Michael said: "We are committed to protecting important green belt land from illegal flytipping and will take legal action against those that commit these offences.

"The Environment Agency (EA) is the licensing authority for the waste transfer site itself and while there have been ongoing issues here, we are determined to halt further unauthorised expansion on to adjoining land, restoring it to its original appearance at the cost of the land owner and will not tolerate dumping."

The next steps include applying to the County Court for the injunction where, if successful, action will be taken to remove the waste.

On March 28 Waste4Fuel went up against the EA at the High Court, with the judge adjourning the case for 28 days.

The EA is concerned Waste4Fuel will not comply with a High Court order, acquired last year, which requires all combustible waste to be removed by May 1.
