A Blackheath church campaign to restore its organ had some surprise support this month from top keyboard player Jools Holland.
The former Squeeze man, now presenter of BBC's flagship music programme Later, grew up down the road in Deptford.
And vicar Dr Nicholas Cranfield from All Saints' Church hopes the star's appearance can boost their fundraising.
The organ is almost as old as the church itself and is said to have inspired composers like Arthur Sullivan and Gustav Holst along with generations of churchgoers, but now it badly needs restoration.
Fr Nicholas confirmed: "Jools Holland, who is one of the patrons for our organ restoration fund with Terry Waite and our former director of music Michael Nicholas, played for a reception held in All Saints' Church in aid of raising £315,000 to restore the 1859 Hill organ later this year."
