A 36-year-old man who installed an app on his ex-partner's phone so he could track her down to Plumstead has been jailed for two years.

Marcus Wellington from Brent in north London, pursued, harassed and intimidated his 35-year-old ex for months after she left him in January last year.

On one occasion she was travelling on a bus toward Woolwich town centre and received a call from Wellington who was sitting in a car next to the bus, looking at her.

He then told her to get in the car and tried to lock her inside. On that occasion she managed to escape.

Wellington's parked car was later spotted by police in Nithdale Road, Plumstead. Inside they found an image of the victim and a homemade firearm.

He was eventually spotted in Long Walk and arrested following a chase. Police discovered he had moved close to his victim's new home, having installed a tracking app on her phone.

Wellington was convicted of attempted kidnap at Southwark Crown Court on March 21.

Officer in the case Detective Constable Celina Todd said: "I am incredibly proud and grateful to the courageous victim who assisted us with our investigation and stood up to Wellington’s abuse.

"He bullied, threatened and subjected her to a terrifying ordeal. I am satisfied with the sentenced he has received and I hope that whilst behind bars, he will reflect upon his behaviour."
