A children’s centre in Woolwich is the borough's first to be branded outstanding in all areas by Ofsted.

Eglinton Children’s Centre in Paget Rise offers health checks, post and ante-natal classes, childcare and parenting advice. It also provides activities, a toy library, creative arts sessions and coffee mornings.

Following an inspection earlier this month, Ofsted inspectors said the centre was outstanding for the way it delivers services, the quality of those services and the way it is managed.

It is the first children’s centre in the borough to be rated outstanding in every category. Ofsted inspectors described centre head Maggie Carney - also head of Eglinton Primary School which shares the site - as "an inspirational leader".

Ms Carney said: "We are delighted with the outcome of our inspection, which reflects the hard work of all who work and engage with the centre. This includes our families and their young children, and a range of professionals and services providers."
