Charlton are planning a brand new training ground complex in Eltham.

The current Sparrows Lane facilities are housed in dilapidated 1950s brick and temporary buildings, but the club says the growth of its community trust and academy means these are no longer suitable.

Under plans submitted to Greenwich Council, the buildings will be replaced by one new integrated 'hub' for the club, trust and youth academy.

And it will also feature community facilities including classrooms, a medical centre, a sports injury clinic and a club room for use by local teams

The development is a joint venture with the community trust and is funded from the new FA Facilities Fund.

Charlton Community Trust chief executive Jason Morgan said: "The club feels our strong local community links are an important element and this facility will support new and existing sports and community initiatives."
