Children have been without heating at a Gravesend primary school since last month and the problem will not be fixed until July.

Angry mum Anna-Louise Shenton created an online petition and is calling on other parents to sign up in the hope the problem will be fixed quickly.

Works to correct the problems at Westcourt Primary School in Silver Road will not be resolved until the summer holidays because works will take longer than two weeks and cannot be completed over the Easter holiday.

Ms Shenton, who has children at the school, said: "Westcourt hasn’t had heating since before half-term.

"The children didn't go back to school as planned on February 17 because of this and stayed off school an extra two days.

"Us parents received texts to keep us update with what was going on with the hot water and heating "issues", which then changed from issues to no heating."

A Kent County Council spokesman said: ''KCC are aware of the issues experienced at Westcourt School prior to half term.

"Upon receiving reports of an issue to the heating, our contractor attended site to evaluate the extent of the problem.

"Unfortunately, there were issues in putting in place a temporary solution which resulted in the school being closed for two days which was most unfortunate.

"We understand that the school endeavoured to keep parents informed of the situation during this period. "Further temporary measures have been taken, and we can confirm that the school does currently have a suitable heating supply.

"A programme of works is planned to be undertaken in the summer holidays to further address any outstanding heating issues.

"In the meantime we are closely monitoring the current systems to ensure that the school can continue to remain open.''
