A 27-year-old man has died in Lewisham after a car smashed into him. 

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday (October 1), just after 3am in Romborough Way, at the junction with Lewisham High Street.

His next of kin have been informed.

The 34-year-old driver of the vehicle, who stopped at the scene, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries until January next year.

A post-mortem examination and formal identification is yet to be scheduled.

Police, fire and the ambulance service attended the scene.

Detectives are investigating and an appeal for witnesses and information is underway.
