A shop worker has been jailed for more than seven years for raping a woman in a Lewisham flat after meeting her at the pub.

Rory Campbell, 25, of Queens Road, Peckham, was found guilty of rape on Friday, September 9 at Woolwich Crown Court.

He was sentenced on the same day to seven-and-a-half years' imprisonment.

The 27-year-old victim had been drinking with friends in New Cross on the evening of June 11, 2015.

After meeting a group of people they didn't know at a pub in New Cross, they moved on to a flat in Besson Street.

While at the flat, the victim realised that she was drunk and tired, and was led to a bedroom where she laid down.

Shortly before 3am, Campbell approached the victim, ripped off her shorts and raped her.

Campbell was identified by police, but went on the run.

He was arrested in February 2016, when he was found to be in possession of cocaine and a knife.

A trial commenced on Monday, September 5 at Woolwich Crown Court, where Campbell was found guilty.

In addition to his jail sentence, he will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
