Travellers have returned to the disused land next to New Cross Gate station, just months after it was vacated and cleared of a mountain of rubbish the size of a football pitch.
Lewisham Council have confirmed that an unauthorised traveller camp has pitched up on the site facing New Cross Road which was dubbed the Deptford dump before it was cleaned up in February this year.
The private land was inhabited by travellers before the rubbish appeared.
Adam Thomas, Stephanie Reeves, Tracy Sutton and Michael Hoskin campaigned for the rubbish to be cleared in February this year.
Reliant Building Contractors, who own the land, have proposed to build flats on the site.
A spokesman for Lewisham Council said: "We have been informed of an unauthorised traveller encampment on private land and are working with the landowner to address the situation."
