Noel Phillips is angry about the signs

A Crayford man has slammed parking signs outside his house as worthy of "Nazi Germany".

Noel Phillips, 45, and many of his neighbours are infuriated by the ‘No Parking’ notices which cropped up around his property.

The signs have also angered his neighbours in Ridge Way with one person attempting to take them down in the dead of night.

Mr Phillips told News Shopper he is worried the notices, erected by housing association London and Quadrant (L&Q), could devalue the house prices in the road.

News Shopper:

The IT consultant and musician said: "It’s just like Nazi Germany.

"They are very ugly signs and we are worried about properties being devalued.

"Someone tried to take one of the signs down in the dead of night but wasn’t able to because they couldn’t get the screws out.

"These guys are cowboys. It's litter - just rubbish nailed to a telegraph pole.

"L&Q have no resource legally and it just looks wrong."

Mr Phillips revealed one furious resident took matters into their own hands last week.

He said: "Someone tried to take one of the signs down in the dead of night but wasn’t able to because they couldn’t get the screws out.

"I said to the L&Q representative who visited recently he wouldn’t want these signs in his street and he agreed."

An L&Q spokesman admitted the signs were not legally enforceable.

He said: "These signs were designed to help people living in the nearby houses who weren’t able to park outside their homes, and were put up by their landlord L&Q who owns the land.

"While such signs don’t carry legal sanctions we are hoping they will be effective and will keep the situation under review."

Its illegal to put signage on telegraph poles anyway, so BT should remove them. That aside, almost all private residents parking areas have signage stating "Parking for residents only", so why is the Housing Association any different. They want to provide parking for those tenants contracted to L&Q, and not any other residents from adjoining roads

They are very ugly signs and we are worried about properties being devalued............
.........I know which is the ugliest of the two in the photo, and its not the sign !!!

What's missed in this story is that over 50% of the properties are privately owned. Also who are L&Q to decide who can park there? It was made into a parking area when owned by bexley council as they had put yellow lines down the rest of the road over 15 years ago. Not sure how this land is not part of the highway and has given to L&Q?

L & Q are to be applauded for this intervention, council tenants need parking spaces as well as home owners (who have the added addition of turning their front garden (if they have one) into their own personal parking space for two/three vehicles and who pay to have pedestrian kerbs ripped up and dropped kerbs put outside their gardens so that they may drive onto their front gardens and thus prevent any other road user from parking on that particular spot on the road). All to often there are skirmishes where I live because people take liberties with parking on private housing association land. The home owners are probably narked because they park their third/fourth car in these spaces any more.

I thought the newspaper was meant for real news not this. What else is left out of this story is that the l@q tenants who live in the area actually pay for the up keep of that land they don't park there for free. But the other private home owners who have more then 2 cars don't pay to park there and will double park and block in other cars. Maybe that should have been part of the story.

I like the way everyone looks really sad in the photo! Get a grip, if there is no legal reason for the signs to be up, then take the bloody things down, no need to wait until the dead of night!

Also if you live in Ridge Way, a couple of signs probably won't affect the value of your house. It's hardly Bishops Avenue is it?

Maybe you should look past my spelling and give a thought to a lovely sweet young lady with kids. Whom those people in that picture have bullied and attack. For no reason other then because they feel they can. Who is the nazi now
It didn't happen, you have made it up to over dramatise a story that has already got too much drama as it is.
Nazi's indeed, why not modernise the story say they are acting like ISIS.
To be fair no one has been beheaded, it's only a pants parking sign......
