A couple who burgled elderly people - including a 100-year-old woman and seven Lewisham victims - have been jailed for a total of 15 years.

Edward Rodmell, 39, from Southwark and Italian Marilane Guardascione, 24, of no fixed abode, committed 26 different offences in all, tricking their way into people's homes before stealing £2,076 in cash and more than £5,000 in handbags and jewellery

Their thefts in Bellingham and Honor Oak included wedding rings and an engagement ring from an 89-year-old man.

And their oldest victim was a 100-year-old Southwark woman. The pair calimed to be from the water board before stealing her bag and money.

On one occasion a 86-year-old woman in Honor Oak Park questioned their identity after they pretended to be police officers and they left empty-handed.

The pair, who admitted a string of burglary charges, were setenced at Southwark Crown Court on August 21. Rodmell was jailed for 10 years and Guardascione was given a five-year sentence.
