A man has been jailed for 14 years for beating a man in his Gravesend home on Christmas Day.

Marian Csiszar, aged 34, of Christianfields Avenue, Gravesend and another man, had forced their way into a house in Peacock Street around 7pm on December 25, last year.

He punched the terrified victim in the face several times, demanding cash.

When the victim gave him £15 - all the money he had on him - Csiszar kicked him and took his car keys, along with his wallet, a bank card and a spiritual artefact.

He then forced the victim into his own car and drove him off to a cashpoint.

During the journey, Csiszar continued to beat him until they stopped at a house where the victim managed to raise the alarm. The police were called and arrested Csiszar.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for pain, broken bones in his hand and wrist, a fractured eye socket and a laceration to his leg caused by the fork.

During a police interview, Csiszar - who was found in possession of several of the victim's belongings, including the spiritual artefact and mobile phone - told officers he had drunk three or four bottles of whiskey and done drugs before committing the crimes.

During a trial at Maidstone Crown Court on August 4 Csiszar, aged 34 was sentenced to 14 years in prison for a charge of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and robbery.

He was also handed a one-year jail term for aggravated vehicle taking, to be served concurrently, and a ten-year ban from driving.

Investigating officer, DC Steve Gibbins from Kent Police, said: "Csiszar carried out a particularly heinous and sustained assault on his helpless and innocent victim.

"He tormented him and beat him continuously for what must have seemed like a very long time.

"However, despite suffering a horrendous ordeal, the victim showed great courage in helping us put Csiszar before the courts.

"I welcome the news Csiszar will be behind bars, where he clearly belongs. His extended incarceration will have a negative impact on his family, who are yet more people affected by his disgraceful behaviour."
