PICTURED: Cheeky flytippers make road in Southfleet impassable after dumping household waste

News Shopper: This lady didn't know what to do when she came across the fly-tipping blocking the road in Southfleet. This lady didn't know what to do when she came across the fly-tipping blocking the road in Southfleet.

A ladder, bricks, a front door, rubble and tiles were just a few of the items left behind by cheeky fly-tippers in Southfleet.

The odd collection of rubbish appeared in Warren Road, just off New Barn Road, on Wednesday morning and completely blocked the road.

The rubbish was not cleared up until Thursday afternoon after angry calls from residents to Kent County Council asking for road to be cleared.

Francis Daniels, 53, who has lived in Warren Road for 14 years said the fly-tipping was not "unique" and more needed to be done to stop the culprits.

She said: "The rubbish appeared on Wednesday morning and it made the road impassable.

"It was the first time the road has ever been totally blocked.

"It does happen quite a lot down here and is by no means unique. We do have odd items turn up quite regularly like beds and sofas.

"I think it is because we are so close to Pepper Hill Recycling Centre and it is only for household waste.

"We are the nearest turning to the centre and it is not overlooked so if anyone cannot dump their waste at the plant because it is commercial or there is a queue we seem to get it left in our road."

Mrs Daniels, who is a teacher, added that the signs put in place had helped drivers but anyone meeting the waste would have had to have reversed back up the hill to turn round and get into Southfleet via another route.

A spokesman for Kent County Council said: "The rubbish was cleared by our highways officers on Thursday afternoon.
"Reporting fly-tipping as soon as possible is crucial and we urge people to report it as soon as we can.
"Anyone caught fly-tipping can be fined by the courts up to £50,000 and could get a five-year prison term."

Yeah, not sure the word I'd use to describe them would be cheeky.

Unfortunately even the white van man who collects rubbish or scrap from your house are struggling and therefore they dont want to pay the charges by the local refuse centres therefore they take it away from you cheap and to cut costs dump it any where they can! It's disgusting and dangerous to everyone including wildlife but this will always happen until the local council drop their charges for commercial vechiles to unload their rubbish.

This lady didn't know what to do when she came across the fly tipping?! Get out of your car, move it to one side, then report it to Kent Highways! Just like the rest of us have to do when these fly tipping scumbags visit our area.
