11:50am Thursday 21st March 2013 in News By Sam Christie
TWO men have been arrested and charged following a day of action by Kent Police in Gravesend town centre.
Dozens of officers took to the town’s streets on Tuesday (Mar 19) to speak to the public, arrest suspicious individuals and assist stores with security.
Several attempted shopliftings were prevented, four vehivles seized for having no insurance, four drivers stopped for having faulty lights, and two arrests made.
Algimantas Grimaliauskas, 54, of Johnson Close, Gravesend, was arrested and charged with theft from a shop. He is due to appear at Medway Magistrates' Court on March 21.
Meanwhile, 35-year-old Ryan Green, of Wentworth Drive, Rochester, was arrested and charged with drink driving. He will appear in court on April 29.
Temporary Police Sergeant Carli Deacon, of Kent Police, said: "Days of action like this are a priority for us as it gives the opportunity to engage with the public, monitor and patrol our town centre streets, give out safety advice and deter members of the public from committing a crime.
"Moreover, it means we are right in the heart of things, making arrests and gathering intelligence that we can use in the future to bring suspects to justice."
