UPDATE: Firefighters still tackling Sevenoaks Way recycling plant fire

FIREFIGHTERS are still tackling a fire affecting a large amount of waste at a recycling plant off Sevenoaks Way.

Three fire engines and 14 firefighters are at the scene in Cornwall Drive, Orpington, trying to damp down the several thousand tonnes of waste that is still smouldering.

Waste is also being removed by site operators while the plant's run-off has been dammed to protect nearby Ruxley Lakes.

Motorists are warned that as firefighters continue to work there may be some traffic disruption.

Six fire engines with 35 firefighters and officers were called to the fire on Monday morning (March 18) from Eltham, Orpington, Sidcup, Bethnal Green, and Bromley fire stations.

The Brigade was called at 5.47am.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Who pays for this? The NS needs to find out who is picking up the bill?

Still burning away this pm. Police trying to sort out the traffic on Crittalls roundabout, chaos. Several fire appliances there as well. I wonder if they're trying to get this place closed down and sell that land for houses or a warehouse on this site? I believe that the tip have to pay for the fire services attendance.

I have just driven past and it is still smoldering. To be fair - businesses pay a lot in business rates for fire/police/ambulanc
e services.
